PDS Bigay Puso 2018: 10 Years of Bringing Hope to Patients

The Philippine Dermatological Society continues to give HOPE and LOVE this Valentine’s Season as it conducts its 10th Bigay Puso on February 7, 2018 for the less fortunate patients of Dr. Jose N. Rodriguez Memorial Hospital.
This yearly project, done at the former Tala Leprosarium, is organized and attended by PDS members, the Leprosy Subspecialty Core Group, and PDS residents, in cooperation with the Dr. Jose N. Rodriguez Memorial Hospital. This year proving to be successful once again, serving an estimated 100 patients in one day.
The event started with the hospital director, Dr. Alfonso H Famaran, Jr., FPCS, greeting the participating PDS members, including PDS President, Dr. Ma. Angela Lavadia, FPDS, and the Head of the Leprosy Subspecialty Core Group, Dr. Ma. Teresita G. Gabriel, FPDS, along with PDS consultants and residents from the different dermatology institutions. As the group visited each of the wards, one can see look on the patients’ faces showing surprise and joy as they were given gifts from each of the participating institutions. This was followed by a tour of the Dr. Jose N. Rodriguez Memorial Hospital, including the hospital’s Department of Dermatology, conducted by the department’s staff, including the Officer-In-Charge, Dr. Frederica Veronica Marquez-Protacio, DPDS, and the Training Officer, Dr. Maria Tricia Manlongat-Malahito, FPDS. The day was then concluded by a special demonstration of AFS provided by the hospital staff, making the experience productive not only for the patients, but for the visitors as well.
