East Avenue Medical Center

About Us

The East Avenue Medical Center Department of Dermatology is a formidable authority and an enduringly proud member of the Philippine Dermatological Society. The year 2024 marks the EAMC Department of Dermatology’s 32nd anniversary. Our commitment to service and linkages inspired a celebration with an academic conference, and medical missions that target the general population.

Functioning as an Advanced Comprehensive Center for Dermatology, the department remains unwavering in its pursuit of excellence and is committed to delivering high-quality and compassionate services to all patients. A key facet of this commitment involves conducting regular medical missions in collaboration with partner communities and in remote areas with limited access to dermatologic care.

Furthermore, the department is dedicated to providing advanced training opportunities for its residents and fellows. In line with this commitment, the Phototherapy Fellowship program was launched in 2023, marking the inception of the first accredited program of its kind in the country.

Research holds a paramount position within the department, as evidenced by active participation in numerous conferences and competitions, both domestically and internationally, by residents and consultants alike. Notably, the department is equipped with various subspecialty units, such as Phototherapy, Contact Dermatology, Dermatological Surgery, Hair Restoration, Nail Care, Pediatric Dermatology, and Community Dermatology.

Moreover, an array of state-of-the-art equipment, including diverse phototherapy machines and lasers, is available, thereby facilitating the provision of exceptional dermatologic care to the Filipino population.

History

Year 1992 marked the birth of the Dermatology Residency Training Program at the East Avenue Medical Center (EAMC) as a section under the Department of Internal Medicine, which started with a ten-square-meter room with three residents and four consultant staff. In January 1999, it was acknowledged as a Department, and in December 2003, transferred to its previous Out-Patient Clinic which housed the Dermatology Department serving as the Dermatology Referral Center of Quezon City, as well as the surrounding cities of Metro Manila and Luzon.

Year 2014 marked a milestone in the history of the EAMC Department of Dermatology as it transferred to its present Out-Patient Clinic and The Skin Center was officially inaugurated on December 8, 2014. Since then, the department is proud of the wide range of general dermatology services, and its 13 subspecialty units.

Furthermore, the department was accredited as one of the Advanced Comprehensive Centers for Dermatology in 2022 by the Department of Health. In its pursuit to produce dermatologists with much-needed subspecialists, the department also commenced its Phototherapy fellowship program in 2023, the first of its kind in the country.

Currently, the EAMC Department of Dermatology and Skin Center continues to deliver all levels of tertiary skin health and care, manned by an accredited expert staff of physicians and health care professionals in Dermatology, which is accessible to all Filipinos.
