Mission and Objectives

The Mission of the Dermatopathology Society of the Philippines is to establish the field of dermatopathology and to uphold the competence of the practicing dermatopathologists.
The Objectives of this Society shall be:

  1. To foster an interest in dermatopathology;
  2. To promote training in dermatopathology by instituting fellowship programs, scientific meetings and seminars;
  3. To provide and disseminate teaching material in dermatopathology;
  4. To conduct research and encourage publications relevant to the practice of dermatopathology;
  5. To uphold professional and ethical standards among dermatopathologists;
  6. To protect members of the Society against unfair practice and competition from unqualified practitioners;
  7. To promote local and international recognition of the subspecialty;
  8. To establish linkages with dermatologists and other specialties for a more comprehensive health care;
  9. To foster camaraderie among members and colleagues from other countries.

Certification by the Philippine Board of Dermatopathology

The certification from the PBDP denotes that the physician is a dermatologist who has:

  1. Completed a three-year residency training program in dermatology accredited by the Philippine Dermatological Society
  2. Completed at least a 1 year fellowship training program in dermatopathology approved by   Dermatopathology Society of the Philippines (DSP)
  3. Successfully passed the evaluation process designed and administered by the PBDP.

I. The Dermatopathology Board of Examiners

A. A workshop on test construction on August 2, 2019 at the UST Hospital was attended by Dr. Arnelfa C. Paliza, MD, FPDS – Chair, Dr. Adolfo B. Bormate, Jr, MD, FPDS and Dr. Maria Jasmin J. Jamora, MD, FPDS – Members


B. Series of actual and online meetings of the Board of Examiners was rendered to formulate objectives, plans, content of the examination methodologies before and after the test construction workshops. This was attended by the Board of Examiners and then DSP president, Dr. Georgina C. Pastorfide.

C. The 2nd Philippine Board of Dermatopathology:
Compliance with the PDS and the Government Safety Guidelines was required to execute the 2nd Philippine Board of Dermatopathology on December 21, 2020 at the newly inaugurated PDS Office. All of the 4 examinees passed.

II. The 14th PDS Dermatopathology Review and Self-Assessment Course
On August 15-16, 2020, the DSP-PDS conducted a very successful online course for dermatology residents in training.

Dr. Margaret Mary B. Alegre, director of the 14th Dermatopathology Review and Self-Assessment Course, the society’s 1st online course, introduces Dr. Peachy Paz-Lao, PDS president, to give the welcome remarks.

III. The 2nd Annual Meeting of the Asian Society of Dermatopathology          

The members of the DSP-PDS presented their interesting cases at the 2020 Asian Society of Dermatopathology Annual Meeting.

IV. The 2021 General Assembly and Oath Taking Ceremonies

The first online General Assembly and Oath Taking of the new diplomates and the new board of directors was held last January 27, 2021. The event was hosted by Dr. Maria Franchesca S. Quinio. It was attended by Dr. Francisco D. Rivera IV, PDS president.

This year’s induction ceremony of the DSP-PDS was again moderated by the gorgeous, Maria Franchesa S. Quinio, MD, an inductee herself. The virtual event was opened by the President, Arnelfa C. Paliza, MD and the new solo diplomate and six new fellows were introduced by Dr. Georgina C. Pastorfide, the Vice-President and Chair of the Board of Examiners, and Gwendolyn Y. Wong, MD Chair of the Membership committee, respectively. Those who took their oaths and were certified members in the following category were the following:
