History

Valenzuela Medical Center (VMC) – Department of Dermatology marked its dawning in the early 2000. As District Health Officer I Dr. Mary Grace H. Reyes began seeing patients with dermatological concerns at the Valenzuela General Hospital (former name of VMC). In the fullness of time, the rise in the number of dermatological cases heralded the expansion of clinical services by way of the dermatology service program. Thus, on September 19, 2019, the Department of Internal Medicine – Section of Dermatology, headed by Dr. Carolina A. Carpio, was created through Hospital Order 485 s., 2019 signed by the Medical Center Chief II Dr. Maria Estrella B. Litam. Together with Drs. Reyes and Carpio, four other dermatology consultants, namely, Drs. Maria Patricia A. Chavez, Diana Jean D. Del Rio, Ma. May Jasmin Ramos-Yason, and Marie Suzzette B. Rosario, laid down the foundation for the out-patient dermatological service and residency training program. Two years after, the Department of Dermatology, through Hospital Order 046 s., 2022 was established and signed by the Medical Center Chief II Dr. Nimfa M. Putong.

In a significant stride towards healthcare excellence, VMC aligns with Republic Act No. 11959, which mandates the creation of Specialty Centers within Department of Health Hospitals and Government-Owned or -Controlled Corporation Specialty Hospitals across every region. Furthermore, under Department Order No. 2021-001-A, VMC has been designated to establish a Basic Comprehensive Center in Dermatology by 2025
