The Makati Medical Center Department of Dermatology recently held the above mentioned event on October 9, 2019 at the Makati Diamond Residences. Around 180 delegates attended, wherein they were treated to a smorgasbord of lectures. The topics were truly multifaceted, ranging from the latest in skincare trends to handling difficult patients to anaesthetic techniques for the dermatologist.

Moderated by Dr. Lucia Castro-Fores and Dr. Sherwin Llego, local and international speakers shared their expertise to an attentive audience, who were captivated by the latest updates in their fields. Dr. Peachy Paz-Lao, current president of the Philippine Dermatological Society, had everyone on their toes as she shared pearls from the best international dermatological conferences she has attended. Dr. Rataporn Ungpakorn from Thailand and Dr. Lieu Hui Min from Singapore delivered lectures that had the crowd hanging on to every word as they discussed what’s known and what’s next in onychomycosis, tranexamic acid for melasma, and atopic dermatitis flare-ups.

Food and refreshments were likewise served in between topics so as to keep everyone engaged for every lecture. To keep everybody even more excited, raffle prizes were given out, with the grand prizes being Google Homes and Fitbits. The most awaited prize, however, was the topaz pendant donated by the department chairwoman, Dr. Valerie Herbosa, which was won by the lucky Dr. Michelle Astorga. Furthermore, booths sponsored by pharmaceutical companies were spread out throughout the venue, wherein the delegates tested and shopped for skincare freebies, samples, and products.

Since the event was attended by all current MMC Dermatology consultants and a majority of MMC Dermatology alumni, a fellowship night was held immediately after the postgraduate course, which also served as a reunion for old friends and colleagues. Dr. Donna Leelin-Sarrosa gave a lecture on biologics prior to dinner and drinks, which was then followed by a live band, games, and dancing.

All in all, the 12th Makati Medical Center Department of Dermatology Postgraduate Course was a huge success, as its promise of a day of holistic learning, fun, and excitement was delivered thanks to the hard work of the residents, consultants, and postgraduate committee. Here’s to hoping the succeeding postgraduate course will be even bigger and better!
