XII International Congress of Dermatology 2017: Buenos Aires, Argentina
The International Society of Dermatology (ISD) held its XII International Congress of Dermatology with a theme “The big challenge: Precision Medicine” in Buenos Aires Argentina from April 18-22, 2017. Guests from all over the world were invited to attend the opening ceremony at Usina Del Arte, a building known as “Palace of light” because of its magnificent architecture. Welcoming address was delivered by the President of the International Society of Dermatology (ISD) Dr. Evangeline Handog followed by speeches from the President of the XXII International Congress of Dermatology Prof. Dr. Ricardo Galimberti and Deputy Head of the Buenos Aires City Government Contago Diego Santilli. Keynote lecture with theme “Molecular Dermatology: Progress and Promise” was discussed by Stephen Katz, MD, PHD during the ceremony. The event ended with an amazing, thrilling Metabombo performance, a folkloric Argentine ensemble, representing angle of Argentine culture.
Lecturers from Asia, Europe and USA gathered in Argentina and shared their knowledge and expertise on diverse topics, such as medical dermatology, infectious dermatology, immunodermatology, pediatric dermatology, molecular dermatology, hair and nail diseases, Acne and Rosacea, pigmentary disorders, cosmetic dermatology, lasers and various treatments. Dr. Evangeline Handog, President of ISD, has participated as chair of lecture session on disorders of hyperpigmentation- Approach and Treatment. Among these lecturers from the Philippines were Dr. Evangeline Handog, who gave a lectures on “ Oral Skin Lightening Agents: In quest for the evidence” and “What’s in the pipeline for hyperpigmentation” and Dr. Johannes Flores Dayrit who gave a lecture entitled, “Topical Management of Melasma (What is the current evidence?)”. Dr. Evangeline Handog has also participated as an expert of Oral Presentation under the Expert Gaze: Pigmentary Diseases / Laser/ Drug Reactions / Dermoscopy”. She also presented at the plenary session and discussed her topic entitled “New therapies in melanoma – What every dermatologists should know”.
Oral and E-poster presentations were given by the following doctors and resident from Research Institute of Tropical Medicine Department of Dermatology, respectively: Dr. Joyce Estanislao on “Erythema Induratum of Bazin: A Report on Four Cases with Clinical and Histopathological Analysis, Dr. Eugenio Pipo III on “Clinical Profile of Patients With Psoriasis Seen at the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) From January 2005-December 2014 and Dr. Kristy Elleza Evangelista on “Comparative study of the Insect Repellency action of Over the Counter Herbal Insect Repellents Rosemary, Citronella and Lemongrass lotions against 7.5% DEET (N, N-Diethyl-Meta-Toluamide)”.
Dr. Joyce Estanislao and Dr. Kristy Elleza Evangelista from RITM were granted as International Society of Dermatology (ISD) Global Education Awardees 2017. As recipients, they were given grants by the scholarship organizing committee and had opportunities to share their researches during the convention.
The XII International Congress of Dermatology was a remarkable opportunity for dermatologists across the globe to learn and to share knowledge and experiences on new scientific and dermatologic discoveries and innovations that have potentials for improving lives of many patients. Buenos Aires, Argentina with its artistic expressions, ranging from great assortment of sculptures and turn-of the-century European-style buildings to its impressive culture, mouthwatering parilla & dulce de leche, outstanding and romantic tango shows and most especially, the well-known warmth of its local people offered the attendees extraordinary experiences. The Congress was truly a successful and enriching event.
