The UP-PGH Section of Dermatology formally started its series of Postgraduate Conferences more than two decades ago. Conferences were open to all colleagues and physicians interested in skin diseases and skin concerns. The main objective of the courses as to share updates, innovations and trends in the various aspects of dermatology, whether diagnostic, therapeutic or preventive.
Last March 27-28, 2009, the Section held its 17th Postgraduate Course entitled “Women’s Dermatology” at the Marco Polo Hotel in Davao City. The two-day event was graced by a good number of attendees and participants from various areas in Southern Philippines. The topics were well-chosen, picked from a list of women’s concerns which the conference hoped to address.
The first day was opened with the remarks of the chief of the Section, Dr. Clarita C. Maano, and the chairperson of this year’s postgraduate course, Dr. Georgina Pastorfide. These formalities were followed a repertoire of lectures covering topics concerning women in the context of dermatology, such as the uniqueness of the female skin, collagen health in postmenopausal women, acne and polycystic ovarian syndrome, retinoids in acne, vulvovaginal lesions and infections, breast care, hyperhidrosis and bromhidrosis, management of melasma, cosmetic dermatology, cosmetic contact dermatitis, delaying of skin aging through sun protection, and updates on glutathione.
Truly, the postgraduate course was a timely event, coinciding with the celebration of Women’s Month in March. Congratulations to all the organizers, kudos for a very successful and well-attended affair.
