Baguio City Mayor Mauricio Domogan graced the occasion and Baguio City Health Officer Dr. Celia Brillantes gave the full support of her office.
Similarly, the PDS hosted a Mini- Skin Health Fair at the PMA auditorium on September 25, 2017 during Day 1 of the PMA Medicine Week celebration. While every year, the PDS is assigned to man the free Skin Clinic and Lay Forum during Medicine week, this year the PDS day was bigger and brighter with the addition of the embellishments of the Mini-Skin Health Fair! Dubbed “Skin Fair sa PMA: Alay ng PMA at PDS sa Bayan” there were lectures, booths and games as well.
The featured lectures were: “Eczema and the Air” delivered by Dr. Franchesca Quinio, “Eczema and the Sun” delivered by Dr. Lily Lyralynn Tumalad, “Eczema and Wound Healing by Dr. Antonio Sison, and “Facts and Myths in HIV/AIDS by Dr. Winlove Mojica. All lectures were presented by PDS members, the last two lectures in cooperation with the Philippine Academy of Cutaneous Surgery and the Philippine Society of Venereology Inc., respectively.
A total of more than 150 patients with different ailments were seen, examined and given free medications. The PDS Outreach Committee headed by Dr. Nellie Jiao was assisted by resident physicians from Skin and Cancer Foundation and the East Avenue Medical Center. Other PMA component societies who conducted free clinics were: the Caloocan City Medical Society and the Mandaluyong City Medical Society. The booths of the partner pharmaceuticals contributed to the sights and sounds of the fair with their gimmicks, games and give-aways. There was even an ice cream booth! The day was capped by a Zumba session hosted and participated in by the Quezon City Medical Society led by its President, Dr. Chary Sy, also a PDS member! Dr Arnold Yu, PDS Board Director and Head of the Legal Cluster was the PDS over-all coordinator for the event. To top it all, the participating physicians and lecturers will be awarded CPD units facilitated by the PMA. Truly, It was a day of cooperation and linkages with other medical societies and partners facilitated by the PDS.
