 The University of Santo Tomas Hospital (USTH) Department of Dermatology together with the Philippine Dermatological Society’s (PDS) Contact Dermatitis and Environmental Dermatology Subspecialty Core Group hosted the monthly Continuing Medical Education (CME) entitled: “PSYCHODERMATOLOGY: The Skin – Mind Connection” last August 30, 2017.  The moderator for the said event was Maria Lourdes H. Palmero, MD, FPDS Residency Training Officer of the Department of Dermatology at USTH.

The CME started with a warm welcome from Ma. Angela T. Cumagun, MD, FPDS the Chair of the Department of Dermatology of UST Faculty of Medicine and Surgery and Chairman of the University of Santo Tomas Hospital Department of Dermatology.  It was followed by an interesting case on Trichotillomania presented by our second year resident, Lauren Margaret T. Hao, MD. The reactor for the case was Antonio C. Sison, MD, FPPA, FPSO, FPDS, DPSVI who is both a fellow in Psychiatry and Dermatology. He shared with the audience his approach in the managing a patient with Trichotillomania and how the media perceived the psychiatric disease.  It was followed by his extensive lecture on Psychodermatology with focus on historical perspective and evolving concepts and an interactive open forum after.

The second part of the CME focused on Contact Dermatology. An update on the scientific meeting of the Dermatologic Society of Thailand (DST) and the International Contact Dermatitis Research Group (ICDRG) 2017 was given by the secretary of the Contact Dermatitis and Environmental Dermatology Subspecialty Core Group, Sarah Grace M. Tan, MD, MOH, DPDS. It was followed by Vermen Verallo-Rowell, MD, FPDS presenting interesting cases and thorough discussion about Pigmented Contact Dermatitis.

 

Awarding of Certificates was led by Ma. Angela M. Lavadia, MD, FPDS President of the PDS and Chairman of the Department of Dermatology at East Avenue Medical Center, Lillian L. Villafuerte, MD, FPDS the Chair of the Contact Dermatitis and Environmental Dermatology Subsepecialty Core Group, Maria Lourdes H. Palmero, MD, FPDS Residency Training Officer of the Department of Dermatology at USTH and Ma. Angela Cumagun, MD, FPDS the Chair of the Department of Dermatology of UST Faculty of Medicine and Surgery and Chairman of the USTH Department of Dermatology. The said event was concluded with closing remarks delivered by Ma. Angela M. Lavadia, MD, FPDS.
