The PDS, through our President, Dr Ma. Angela Lavadia, Treasurer Dr Jasmin Jamora, and PDS-Southern Philippine President Dr Marilou Ong, recently gave donations in cash for internally displaced persons, and in kind for the troops who are engaged in the Marawi Crisis.
On Sept 20, 2017, Dr Jema Bautista and I turned over the Seventy-five Thousand pesos check for Marawi evacuees. The check donation for Prelature of Marawi was issued to the Redemptorist Missionaries and the Certificate of Fund Receipt was signed by Edwin dela Peña, Bishop of Marawi. The amount will be used for the project of Duyog Marawi, which is a church-based response to the Marawi Crisis in partnership with Redemptorist Missionaries, the project is entitled ” MSU-Marawi Early Recovery and Peacebuilding “. The main objective of the project is to provide healing and psychosocial support to Maranao and Christian students and residents inside the MSU Marawi Campus from the trauma they experience because of the war.
The PDS donation in kind worth seventy-five thousand pesos for AFP troops was turned over to 1Lt. Rodilyn Hernandez (AGS) PA, Admin officer of 103 Brigade. Col. Gene Ponio, the Brigade Commander, 103 Bde Phil Army, Marawi City, expressed his gratitude to the PDS especially because there was already a “donor fatigue” for the troops, so our donation was manna from heaven for them. Their daily staple are sardines and dried fish so he suggested that we give them branded local stuff ” para naman sumaya ang troops na nasa frontline ng war in Marawi.” On his list were chocolate bars, candies, coffee, energy drink, crackers, corned beef, luncheon meat, pork and beans, but no sardines please. And yes, plenty of Off lotion to ward off mosquitos. I told him it was the PDSociety’s way of showing support and gratitude for the troops, our heroes, who are fighting terrorists in Marawi.
On behalf of Dr Jema Bautista and the people in Iligan and Marawi cities, our love and gratitude to PDS Mother Society officers and members for your kindness and generosity. Let us continue to support our troops, promote peace, fight terrorism and pray for unity. Thank you very much and God bless the PDS!
