PDS Consultants and Residents participate at 75th American Academy of Dermatology Annual Meeting
The American Academy of Dermatology’s (AAD) 75th Annual Meeting was held at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida last March 3-7, 2017. This educational activity offered attendees up-to-date sessions, forums and workshops that covered medical and surgical dermatology as well as cosmetic dermatology and dermatopathology given by lecturers from Asia, Europe, and USA. Dr. Kristy Evangelista was awarded the 2017 Strauss and Katz World Congress Fund Scholarship. Her research entitled “Comparative study the Insect Repellency action of Over the Counter Herbal Insect Repellents Rosemary, Citronella and Lemongrass lotions against 7.5% DEET (N, N-Diethyl-Meta-Toluamide)” was presented as E-poster throughout the convention at the AAD Exhibit Hall Access.
A variety of topics were discussed in areas of subspecialties like pediatric dermatology, infectious dermatology, phototherapy, medical dermatology, surgical dermatology, ,dermatopathology , contact dermatitis, lasers, cosmetic dermatology and dermatoimmunology. More than 400 exhibitors participated at 75th AAD Annual meeting showcasing their latest technologies and innovations. Highlighted was cutting-edge research in dermatology presented by the experts in their respective fields .
Dr. Bryan Guevara, from Southern Philippine Medical Center (SPMC), presented his research entitled “A Randomized, Double Blind Clinical Trial On the Efficacy and Safety of Turmeric 1% Cream in The Treatment of Plaque-Type Psoriasis in Adults” during the Residents and Fellows Symposium held last March 4, 2017, The symposium aimed to identify the most significant dermatology laboratory and clinical research performed by residents and fellows. It also recognized developing trends in clinical dermatology research.
Team SPMC was also selected to participate in the Residents’ Jeopardy competition last March 05, 2017. This dynamic, fast-paced take on the classic television show, “Jeopardy,” presented challenging self-assessment trivia where teams compete to test their knowledge of dermatology. The following residents from SPMC represented the said competition: Dr. Bryan Guevara, Dr. Elisa Rae Coo and Dr. Faus Manzano.
International Scholarship Recipients of 2017 AAD Annual registration Awardees were Dr. Angelica Guzman and Dr. Karen Abigail Santos. All the AAD scholars were given complimentary meeting registration, admission to one post-graduate ticketed session, and an invitation to attend the International Scholarship Recipient Reception and Dinner.
ISD Incumbent President Dr. Evangeline Handog, Incoming President Dr. George Reizner , PDS dermatologists and residents along with other ISD members attended the International Society of Dermatology (ISD) Fellowship Reunion Dinner last March 6, 2017 at Hilton Hotel, Orlando Florida.
Indeed, 2017 AAD Annual Meeting was a big success. It truly offered outstanding program with much to offer, including interactive sessions, research poster exhibits, live demonstrations, international symposiums, AAD affiliate and reunions and meetings and networking lounges, all of which will expand and enrich the educational opportunities for members.
