PDS conducts Medical Mission with DOH Secretary Dr. Ubial at the Correctional Institute for Women
Upon the invitation of Department of Health (DOH) Secretary Paulyn Rosell-Ubial, the Philippine Dermatological Society was invited to look into the skin problems of the inmates of the Correctional Institute for Women in Mandaluyong City. The event was held on March 8, 2017, Wednesday, from 8 – 11 am, which happens to coincide with International Women’s Day. PDS Fellow and Diplomate Volunteers were welcomed in a morning exercise consist of a parade of colors, lively music by a drum and bugle corps and more than a hundred dancing lady inmates.
In that 3-hour medical mission, they were able to efficiently serve 218 patients receiving free consultations and medicines. A successful Basal Cell Carcinoma (BCC) excision and flap was done by Dr. Laurence LOH with the assistance of Skin and Cancer Foundation Inc (SCFI) senior residents performed inside the new DOH dental van, with many of the surgical supplies provided by DOH. Dr Paulynn Ubial along with some congressional spouses came and gave their support to the mission. What a meaningful and significant way of celebrating International Women’s Day!
