PDS Conducts 16th DermaSurg Mission in Banaue, Ifugao

The Philippine Dermatological Society (PDS) held its 16th Dermatologic Surgery Mission at the Good News Clinic and Hospital in Taman, Banaue, Ifugao from January 4 – 7, 2017.
The four-day mission was spearheaded by Dr. Ida Tiongco, a visiting dermatologist from New York-Presbyterian/ Weill Cornell Medical Center in cooperation with the Philippine Dermatological Society and Dr. Antonio Ligot, Medical Director of The Good News Clinic and Hospital in Banaue. Our PDS President, Dr. Ma. Angela M. Lavadia, together with PDS past presidents Dr. Teresita G. Gabriel, Dr. Rosalina E. Nadela and PDS board member Dr. Jasmin J. Jamora, and PDS members and dermatology consultants, fellows, graduates and residents from the PDS-accredited training institutions such as Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM), East Avenue Medical Center (EAMC) and Ospital ng Maynila Medical Center (OMMC) manned the mission . The PDS Northern Luzon Chapter with past chapter president, Dr Remie Manuel and other members were very much involved too.
Excision, Electrocautery, cryotherapy, skin biopsies, and intralesional steroid injections were among the procedures performed, under the able supervision of Dr. Ida Tiongco, an honorary PDS Fellow. The Mission served a total of 648 patients.
Ifugao’s fantastic views and cool weather served as the perfect backdrop for the Dermatologic Surgery Mission. The Ifugao residents’ priceless smiles after undergoing the procedures make the mission memorable and worthwhile for PDS and all the participants.
