DERMSCOPE: Knowing the Basics
Julie Anne Patricia M. Songco, MD
The Philippine College of Physicians held its 47th Annual Convention themed Proactive Collaborations and Partnerships: STRONGER TOGETHER last May 7-10, 2017 at the SMX Convention Center.
In collaboration, the Philippine Dermatologic Society (PDS) conducted a wet clinic themed DERMSCOPE with the participation of the following institutions and its respective speakers: East Avenue Medical Center – Dr. Angela Lavadia and Dr. Elizabeth Prieto, Makati Medical Center – Dr. Sharon Lim and Dr. Sarah Tan, Research Institute and Tropical Medicine – Dr. Jon Lazo-Dizon, Ospital ng Maynila – Dr. Grace Calvarido, and University of the East – Dr. Alma Amado.
Each institution presented a common case seen in the outpatient clinics: Psoriasis, Contact Dermatitis, Atopic Dermatitis, Scabies, and Leprosy.
Skin diseases which are very common in many developing countries, are not often regarded as a significant health problem even when serious diseases may be heralded by skin changes.
This activity was very well suitable for those with limited understanding of Dermatology’s basic skin diseases and a good avenue to learn about the most common dermatologic OPD cases.
Because the burden of skin disease is seen in day to day clinics, this interactive exchange of up to date cutting-edge medical information has been useful and relevant for both dermatologists and other health care professionals.
