Department of Dermatology

Davao Medical Center , a government hospital, is the main referral center in Mindanao . Initially, Dermatology was a section of Internal Medicine which only had one consultant, Dr. Carlos R. Pacheco. In 1994, Dr. Ma. Pacita S. Belisario and Dr. Lalaine R. Visitacion volunteered their services to the hospital. A year later, Dr. Ma. Assumpta Cecilia R. Serrano joined the group. Thus, in 1996, the decision was made to start a residency training program with one resident physician initially. This section eventually became a department and was given accreditation on probation by the Philippine Society of Cutaneous Medicine in 1999, pending the presence of a dermatopathologist in the staff. In February 2006, full accreditation was given to the department by the Philippine Dermatology Society as Dr. Victoria P. Guillano, a dermatopathologist and a graduate of the institution joined the department.
